NATIONALLY

The National Association of Women in Construction was founded in 1953 by sixteen trailblazer women from Fort Worth, Texas. Led by Doris Efird, these ladies started a movement that has grown and flourished for quarter of a century. ​​​​​​​

Salt Lake City Chapter #90 was organized on April 4, 1964. A group of women met in the Pioneer Room at Hotel Utah located in Salt Lake City, Utah to organize the chapter. Acting Chairman Mary Bagby, from the Dallas Chapter and daughter of one of the original founders was present at the meeting. Bagby assisted the women with creating by-laws, policies and holding the first SLC election.  

 

​Salt Lake City Chapter #90 was chartered on June 9th,1964. The chartering was held at the University Club located at 610 East South Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. The meeting minutes state; cocktails at noon and lunch at 1:00 p.m. The cost to attend the meeting was $2.75. The Sponsoring Chapter was Dallas with Florence Creighton being the NAWIC Extension Chairman. There were 28 members when the chapter was chartered. ​We celebrate our founders and the the supporting companies they worked for we appreciate their efforts and dedication that laid the foundation for our chapter today and for our future.
