Bernhard Awarded for Safety Excellence

The Safety Excellence Award honors a company making significant efforts to promote a strong culture of safety within their organization. This award is split into two categories:

Small Company (<250 employees)

Large Company (>1000 employees)

Nominations were open to submissions from members or non-members, and then voted on by the NAWIC Salt Lake Chapter Board. Companies were evaluated based on safety and health programs, innovative solutions, leadership commitment, and strong safety culture.

We are honored to present the award for Safety Excellence - Large Company to Bernhard!

Bernhard has created innovative solutions to establish a strong safety culture within their organization, starting with the implementation of their “S.A.F.E.” work philosophy: “See it, Assess it, Fix it, Every day!” This program encompasses job site analysis, pre task planning, regular jobsite inspections, and the distribution of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) Bulletins. Additionally, Bernhard has implemented a novel "Safety Champion" program, where employees are rotated into the role of safety advocate for their team, empowering workers at all levels to take ownership of safety practices. The company has also introduced a cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) training program, allowing employees to experience and respond to hazardous situations in a controlled, immersive environment, enhancing their preparedness for real-world scenarios. Bernhard's commitment is further evidenced by maintaining an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) well below the industry average, demonstrating sustained top-down dedication to safety. Additionally, supervisors and management are required to obtain higher-level OSHA 30 certification, showcasing a commitment to advanced safety knowledge at leadership levels.

Join us in congratulating Bernhard!
